BETWEEN SELVES
Between Selves explores the shifting relationship between past and present selves, and the tension between imagined identity and lived experience. The work employs high-contrast black-and-white treatment, allowing the figure to become visually abstracted. This reduces specific identifying features and detaches the image from any singular individual, opening a space for personal projection. The simple white shirt further neutralises markers of identity, inviting viewers to bring their own emotions and experiences into the reading of the work.
Mirrors are positioned as active elements within the installation. They not only reflect but also fragment, fold, and reconfigure the image, weaving the viewer physically into the work. As the audience moves, their reflections overlap with the photographed figure, revealing how identity shifts in response to memory, perception and changing points of view. The work aims to offer a calm, introspective encounter in which the many fluid versions of the self can surface.
